APPDI Participates in National Coordination Meeting on the Transitional Implementation Framework of Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law

Bogor, Thursday, 7 May 2026 — APPDI recently participated in the “Coordination and Policy Synchronisation Meeting on Data Protection Related to the Transitional Period and Preparation for the Implementation of Regulations under the Personal Data Protection Law” (Rapat Koordinasi dan Sinkronisasi Kebijakan Pelindungan Data Terkait Masa Transisi dan Persiapan Implementasi Peraturan Pelaksanaan dari UU PDP), convened by the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Politik dan Keamanan Republik Indonesia / Kemenko Polkam).

The coordination meeting, held in Bogor at 9:00 AM, was led by Mr. Y. Syaiful Garyadi, Ak., M.M., CA, Assistant Deputy for Data Protection and Electronic Transactions Coordination (Asisten Deputi Koordinasi Pelindungan Data dan Transaksi Elektronik), and brought together representatives from government institutions, industry associations, financial services, telecommunications sectors, and other strategic stakeholders engaged in Indonesia’s evolving personal data protection landscape.

Representing APPDI at the meeting was Dewi Susansi, General Counsel of APPDI.

During the discussions, participants were informed that the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) under Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law, together with the Presidential Regulation concerning the establishment of the Personal Data Protection Authority, presently remain under final consideration pending the President’s political decision prior to formal enactment.

The session further reflected ongoing institutional considerations regarding the future supervisory structure of the Personal Data Protection Authority, including whether the authority will ultimately be established as: • an independent institution directly accountable to the President; or • an authority operating under the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Komunikasi dan Digital Republik Indonesia / Komdigi).

Representatives from the banking, telecommunications, and professional sectors also exchanged perspectives concerning governance readiness, operational compliance challenges, and institutional transition during the current interim period preceding the formal establishment of the supervisory authority.

The discussions underscored the importance of sustained coordination between government institutions, industry stakeholders, and professional communities as Indonesia advances towards the broader implementation of its national personal data protection framework.

On this occasion, APPDI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government through constructive collaboration, education initiatives, professional capacity-building programmes, and the strengthening of personal data protection compliance practices in Indonesia, including through the sharing of comparative references and regional best practices across ASEAN jurisdictions.

As Indonesia progresses towards the next phase of its data protection governance framework, APPDI remains committed to contributing to the development of a credible, accountable, and internationally aligned personal data protection ecosystem.
