Professor Abu Bakar Munir, Co-founder of the Asosiasi Profesional Privasi Data Indonesia (APPDI) and a leading international expert on Data Protection Law, attended and delivered the first plenary address at the National Conference on Personal Data Protection 2025, held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 7 October 2025.
The conference was jointly organised by the European Union, the Government of Germany, and the Government of Cambodia, reflecting a strong international collaboration and shared commitment to advancing personal data protection in the region.
Cambodia is currently in the process of drafting its Personal Data Protection Law, marking a significant milestone in its digital governance journey. Professor Munir’s session provided valuable insights drawn from his extensive experience in shaping data protection frameworks in Malaysia, Indonesia, and other jurisdictions.
The plenary session gathered government officials, legal professionals, and international experts from various sectors. Professor Munir emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive legal framework that balances innovation with the protection of individual privacy rights.
